It’s Our Intention to Be Different!

The Kingdom of Christ is comprised of people from different backgrounds and experiences.  We are sensitive to this and purposefully respond to the needs of young families, individuals in crisis, and all generations (Silent, Boomers, X’ers, Y’ers, and Millennials).

We use all available forms of technology, including our website and social media, as a touchpoint for our members and seekers. We are deliberate about the total well-being of our membership. We put emphasis on quality: not quantity. And, we not only focus on spiritual growth but on every aspect of a person’s life.

Leading members to explore and discover their own personal growth strategies is our passion, while our outreach strategy focuses on discovering and creating forward-thinking evangelistic opportunities. We demonstrate intentional and compassionate outreach to the dispirited and dispossessed. As a caring, Christ-centered church, we focus on developing healthy, lifelong relationships while implementing programs and events that promote fellowship and close ties within the congregation.

We instill hope for those who are suffering from the ills of society and like to think of ourselves as a celebration driven church. We offer a blended service with a traditional and contemporary flavor. We host memorable events such as concerts, musicals, and plays. We also try to celebrate the accomplishments of our members, both inside and outside of the church.

Leadership

The Reverend Toney J. Slater is a son of the parsonage and has been an A.M.E. pastor for 29 years.  He is a product of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, Woodrow, SC, where his father, the Rev. Toney J. Slater, Sr. pastored for nearly 40 years.  He has been privileged to serve five A.M.E. churches:

• Pine Hill – Sumter, SC (2 years)
• Ebenezer – Mayesville (1 year)
• Zion – Round O (14 years)
• Bethel – Ravenel (11 years)
• New Jerusalem – Wadmalaw Island (current)

In addition to pastoring, Rev. Slater is an entrepreneur with expertise in strategic planning and project management.  Rev. Slater has a passion for creating a shift in the culture of the church as it seeks to “serve the present age.”

Rev. Slater is excited about the future of New Jerusalem, which he fondly refers to as being located “Downtown Wadmalaw Island.” He constantly reminds his congregation of the words in 1Corinthians 2:9, “For it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” KJV.

Rev. Slater resides in Summerville, SC with his lovely wife Sherron. They are the proud parents of one daughter and three grandchildren.
